This programme is for the following year groups: Years 5-10

Palaeontologists provide much of the knowledge we have about fossils, dinosaurs and other extinct species. Investigate and explore palaeontology and examine some specimen’s palaeontologists have found. In a hands-on experience, students learn about the process of fossilisation and how these discoveries help fill in the blanks in the evolutionary tree.

Learning Outcomes
Learners will:
· Describe the role of a palaeontologist
· Understand the process of fossilisation
· Understand the importance of studying fossils to describe extinct species
· Learn the whakapapa of various fossils found across Tāmaki Makaurau and Aotearoa to make connections to their own past

Please note: minimum 20 students, maximum 30 students per session
