This programme is for the following year groups: Year 4–6, Year 7–8, Year 9–13
Explore roughly 6,000 years of Polynesian migration, exploration, and technological ingenuity across Te-Moana-Nui-a-Kiwa to Aotearoa New Zealand. Learners will have the opportunity to handle some of our taonga and objects while discovering how these items and technology were used. Learn about the various forms of bodies of knowledge that inform our understanding of these histories through Archaeology, Linguistics and Mātauranga Māori.
Learning Outcomes
Learners will:
· Explore the migration of early Polynesians across the Pacific to Aotearoa
· Identify the similarities and differences in various Austronesian languages
· Identify evidence and bodies of knowledge that attribute to understanding of voyaging histories
· Identify technologies and their adaptations throughout the Pacific due to change in climate
