Join us for an hour of immersive pūrākau (story telling) exploring the Te Ao Māori world view of maunga puia (volcanoes). Listen to the stories of Ranginui, Papatuānuku, and Ruaumoko. Discover the great battle between Tongariro and his brothers. Learn about the taniwha Tamahoi, Sophia Hinerangi and the waka wairua (ghost ship), and the prophecies of Tūhoto Ariki. Engage with volcanic rocks and make connections to their uses in everyday Māori life.’
Learning Outcomes
Learners will:
· Communication through pūrākau of Te Ao Māori
· Develop an appreciation for maunga puia from a Te Ao Māori world view
· Make connections between Aotearoa's volcanic landscape and Māori life
